Slack Huddle

Voicenotes can record your Slack Huddles from the Desktop app and turn them into notes, summaries, and searchable transcripts.

Voicenotes is available for both Mac and Windows. The Mac app is our flagship experience and gets new features first - meeting auto-detection, live transcripts, and Ask AI are all fastest and most complete there, so we recommend it if you have the choice.

Slack Huddles don't have a built-in recording feature of their own, and there's no meeting link to share - but you don't need one. Once the Voicenotes Desktop app is installed and running on your system, it can auto-detect when you start a Huddle and ask if you'd like to record. You don't need to invite a bot or set up a Slack integration. If you're on Linux, you can record Huddles happening in the browser using our extension too.

To record Slack Huddles with Voicenotes, you'll need:

For the best experience, make sure both Slack and Voicenotes apps are updated to the latest version.

Voicenotes records from your computer while you're in the Huddle. This means it can capture the conversation without joining as a separate participant.

When you start or join a Huddle, Voicenotes detects it and shows a prompt asking if you want to record it. If you choose to record, Voicenotes captures the audio in the background, generates live transcripts, and processes it into a detailed summary after the recording is saved.

This is useful because your Huddle can stay quick and informal the way it's meant to be. You don't need to manage a separate notetaker bot or wait until after the call to start organizing what was discussed.

To record a Slack Huddle with Voicenotes:

Once processing is complete, you'll be able to open the Huddle in Voicenotes and review the transcript, summary, and other generated notes.

After your Slack Huddle is saved, Voicenotes can generate:

You can use the transcript when you need the exact details, and the summary when you just want a quick review of what happened.

While the Huddle is happening, you can open Voicenotes to follow the live transcript.

This is helpful when you want to quickly check what was just said, catch up after missing a detail, or follow along without interrupting the conversation.

The live transcript is especially useful for longer Huddles where you don't want to wait until the end to start reviewing what was discussed.

You can Ask AI anything about the topics discussed in the Huddle while it's running or after. During the Huddle, you can ask the AI to recap what has been discussed so far or for any specific details you want to clarify. After the Huddle is recorded, you can use Ask AI to ask questions about the conversation.

For example, you can ask:

Ask AI answers from the Huddle content, so you don't have to scroll through the full transcript every time you need a detail.

Voicenotes needs to be running so it can detect your Huddle and show the recording prompt.

If Voicenotes can't access your microphone, it may not be able to capture the Huddle properly.

On your Mac, go to:

System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone

Then make sure Voicenotes is enabled.

Huddle transcription works best when the audio is clear. If you're using headphones or an external mic, make sure Slack is using the correct input and output devices.

Start recording at the beginning of the Huddle so your transcript and summary include the full context.

Voicenotes helps create a strong first draft of your meeting record, but it's still worth reviewing important names, numbers, deadlines, and commitments before sharing notes with others.

Voicenotes does not join your Slack Huddle as a visible bot or participant.

You are responsible for following local laws, workplace policies, and meeting expectations around recording consent. In many cases, it's a good idea to let participants know that you're using Voicenotes to record and summarize the Huddle.

A simple line at the start of the call works well:

"I'm using Voicenotes to record and summarize this Huddle so I don't miss anything."

Please check that:

If the prompt still doesn't appear, try quitting and reopening Voicenotes before your next Huddle.

Make sure you clicked Record on the Voicenotes prompt. Voicenotes will only start recording after you confirm.

Also check that microphone permission is enabled for Voicenotes in your Mac settings.

This can happen if your audio device or microphone wasn't captured clearly.

Yes. Open the note and use Ask AI to ask questions about the transcript, decisions, action items, or follow-ups. You can use Ask AI during the Huddle or after.

Yes. You can share the note or copy the generated summary, transcript, or action items depending on what you want to send.

For automatic detection, we recommend using the Slack desktop app. If you're on Linux, our browser extension can detect Huddles happening in the browser.

Please update Voicenotes to the latest version and check microphone and screensharing permissions.
