Voicenotes Dictation lets you speak into text boxes across your Android phone. You can use it in messages, emails, notes, documents, comments, search fields, and most places where you would normally type.
Once set up, you can select the Voicenotes Keyboard, tap the mic, and speak instead of typing.
Set up dictation in the Voicenotes app
To get started:
Open the Voicenotes app on your Android phone.
Tap Dictation from the sidebar.
Follow the setup steps shown in the app:
Tap Turn on button
Allow Microphone access
Choose language you'll be speaking in
Open settings and enable Voicenotes keyboard & tap on activate keyboard
Tap on show keyboard picker & change keyboard to Voicenotes
Tap the microphone icon to try out the dictation for yourself. This is a required step to complete the set up.
After you successfully try out the first dictation and complete the onboarding process, you will be directed to the dedicated Dictation page where you can view the dashboard with dictation usage, stats, and history.
Voicenotes Dictation works through the Voicenotes Keyboard. After starting setup in the app, you’ll need to enable the keyboard from your Android settings.
To enable it:
In the setup flow, tap Open Settings. You can also go directly to your phone’s Settings.
Open System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard. The exact labels may vary by phone.
Find Voicenotes Keyboard and turn it on.
Return to Voicenotes.
Android may show a standard warning when enabling a third-party keyboard. This is expected. Voicenotes needs keyboard access so dictation can work across apps.
You can also manage this later from Settings → Dictation in the Voicenotes app, using Open keyboard settings.
Switch to the Voicenotes Keyboard
After the keyboard is enabled, select it so you can use it anywhere you type.
Tap into any text box.
Open your keyboard list by tapping on keyboard/globe icon
Select Voicenotes Keyboard.
When the Voicenotes Keyboard is active, tap the mic button to start dictating. When you’re done, stop dictation and review the text before sending or saving it.
How to turn dictation off
To turn off Voicenotes Keyboard on Android:
Switch to another keyboard first, such as your default Gboard or Samsung keyboard.
Open Android keyboard settings & tap on manage keyboards.
Switch Voicenotes Keyboard.
You can do this from Voicenotes → Settings → Dictation, which will guide you through switching keyboards before disabling Voicenotes Keyboard.

Where can I use Voicenotes Dictation?

Do I need to open Voicenotes every time I want to dictate?
No. Once the keyboard is set up and selected, you can use the Voicenotes Keyboard from any text box without opening the app first.
Keep Voicenotes as your active keyboard, then tap the mic whenever you want to dictate.
Why do I need to enable the Voicenotes Keyboard?
The keyboard lets Voicenotes Dictation work across apps. Without enabling the keyboard, dictation can’t insert text into other apps.
Why does Android warn me when enabling the keyboard?
Android shows a standard warning when you enable a third-party keyboard. Voicenotes needs this so it can convert your speech into text wherever you use the keyboard.
How do I switch back to my normal keyboard?
Tap the keyboard or globe icon, then choose your regular keyboard, such as Gboard.
Can I use dictation inside the Voicenotes app?
Yes. You can create a text note in Voicenotes and use the Voicenotes Keyboard to dictate directly into it.
I don’t see Voicenotes in my keyboard list. What should I do?
Make sure you’re using the latest version of Voicenotes from the Play Store. Then open Voicenotes, go to Dictation from sidebar menu, tap Turn on, and follow the setup steps again.
Also check that Voicenotes Keyboard is turned on in Android’s on-screen keyboard settings.
Dictation isn’t working. What should I check?
Please check that:
Voicenotes is updated to the latest version.
You’re signed in to Voicenotes.
Microphone permission is enabled.
Voicenotes Keyboard is enabled in Android settings.
You’ve selected Voicenotes as your current keyboard.
Your phone has an internet connection.
