How to use Voicenotes MCP server in ChatGPT

In this article, you'll learn how to connect your Voicenotes MCP to ChatGPT

Why connect Voicenotes to ChatGPT?

Connecting the Voicenotes MCP server to ChatGPT lets the assistant access your memos & meetings directly. Once connected you can:

  • Search your notes semantically (e.g., "ideas about onboarding" will match even if you never used the word onboarding).

  • Browse notes filtered by date ranges or tags.

  • Retrieve transcripts of any voice note or meeting directly into the conversation.

  • Create new text notes from within ChatGPT and add tags.

To link your Voicenotes MCP server to ChatGPT you'll need an active Voicenotes account and a ChatGPT account (works with all plans).

1. Navigate to ChatGPT settings

  1. In ChatGPT, click your profile at the bottom left and choose Settings.

2. Select Apps from the sidebar and click Advanced settings under the Apps section.

3. Toggle Developer mode on. This mode allows you to add custom connectors. Use at your own risk and click Create app.

2. Configure the Voicenotes MCP app

When the New App dialog appears:

  1. Give your app a Name (e.g., Voicenotes).

  2. Optionally provide a short Description so you remember what this connector does.

  3. For MCP Server URL, enter https://api.voicenotes.com/mcp.

  4. Leave Authentication set to OAuth (default).

  5. Read the warning about custom MCP servers and tick the I understand and want to continue checkbox.

  6. Click Create.

At this point, ChatGPT will open a new tab to the Voicenotes site.

3. Authorize access with Voicenotes

You’ll see a page titled Connect with Voicenotes asking you to grant ChatGPT access to your notes. This screen explains what ChatGPT will be able to do:

  • Search notes semantically by meaning.

  • Retrieve full transcripts of voice notes and meetings.

  • Filter notes by tags and date ranges.

  • Create new text notes on your behalf.

Click Continue to authorize. If you’re not already signed in to Voicenotes you’ll be asked to log in first.

After granting access, you'll be redirected back to ChatGPT and a green banner will confirm that Voicenotes is now connected. The new app will appear under Enabled apps.

4. Try it out

You can now interact with your Voicenotes using natural language in any ChatGPT chat. Here are a few examples to get you started:

  • “Search my notes for ideas about the mobile app.” – returns notes discussing mobile app ideas.

  • “Show me my notes from last week.” – lists your recent notes.

  • “Find notes tagged with ‘travel’.” – filters notes by tag.

  • “Create a note: Remember to follow up with the design team.” – creates a new text note.

  • “Get the full transcript of my last meeting.” – brings the complete transcript into your conversation.

You should see ChatGPT call the Voicenotes tool and respond with the relevant information.

Need help?

If ChatGPT says it can't access your notes, go to Settings → Apps and ensure the Voicenotes connector shows as Connected. If necessary, disconnect and reconnect.
