Understanding recording limits
When Voicenotes first launched, the maximum recording duration was 15 minutes per note. As the app has matured and become more stable, we’ve carefully tested and extended these limits to support much longer sessions — while still keeping your recordings safe from corruption or loss.
These are the latest recording limits, and they may continue to evolve as we improve performance and reliability across devices.
Recording limits by platform
To make sure your recordings stay clear and uncorrupted, each Voicenotes platform has a maximum duration limit per recording:
Platform | Maximum duration |
Android / iOS app | 60 minutes |
Web app | 90 minutes |
Watch app | 60 minutes |
Chrome extension | 90 minutes |
Mac / Windows app | 2 hours |
These limits help prevent audio corruption and ensure reliable saving across devices.
What happens when you reach the limit
On the web and mobile (Android / iOS) apps, Voicenotes includes an auto-start feature. When your recording reaches the time limit:
A new recording starts automatically — you don’t have to tap anything.
The new recording is attached as a subnote to your original note.
This keeps everything organized in a single thread, so you can review or share the entire conversation or meeting in one place.
