How to use Voicenotes on WhatsApp to transcribe recordings and Ask AI

In this guide, you’ll learn how to set up Voicenotes on WhatsApp, what it can do, and how to make the most of it.

Updated today

Voicenotes now works right inside WhatsApp — so you can save voice notes, get instant transcriptions, and even ask questions about what you’ve recorded. No apps to switch, no logins needed. Just open WhatsApp and start talking.

What is the WhatsApp integration?

The WhatsApp integration lets you transcribe recordings and save notes (voice and text) just by sending or forwarding a message to the Voicenotes chat. You can also ask about anything in your notes, and Ask AI will retrieve it for you, without leaving the app. It’s fast, simple, and works from anywhere.

There are two separate WhatsApp chats:

  • Voicenotes Record – to take notes (transcribe, summarize, and save).

  • Voicenotes Ask – to retrieve notes (ask questions or revisit anything you’ve said in the past). The AI remembers.

How to connect your WhatsApp account to Voicenotes

Connecting your WhatsApp to Voicenotes takes just a minute — and once you're set up, you’ll be able to send voice or text messages directly to your Voicenotes assistant.

  1. Open the Voicenotes app
    Go to SettingsWhatsApp.

  2. Enter your WhatsApp number
Select your country and enter your WhatsApp number. Tap Send OTP to receive a verification code.

  3. Verify your number
Enter the OTP you received to complete the connection.

  4. You’re all set!

You’ll now see two dedicated chats in WhatsApp:

    • Voicenotes Record – Everything you send here (voice or text) will be saved as a new note on your Voicenotes account.

    • Voicenotes Ask – Ask questions or retrieve anything from your notes.

  5. Make a note!
Send a voice message, or forward one from any other chat. You’ll get an instant title, transcript preview, and link to the web app for your full note.

Tip: Save both chats to your contacts and pin them to the top of your WhatsApp. That way, your note-taker is always within reach — even when you're on the move.

Trouble verifying your number?

In rare cases (especially with some international formats), your number may not register correctly. Some numbers require you to remove a leading digit like “9". If you run into this:

  • Do not disconnect your account yet.

  • Instead, send us a quick email at [email protected] and we’ll help get you connected.
