Why is the meeting bot being retired?
Over time, we’ve realized that bots change the dynamic of a meeting. When a bot joins, people notice. Conversations shift. In some cases, multiple bots join the same call, making things feel unnatural.
We don’t think that’s the right way to capture conversations. So we’re retiring meeting bots on April 30, 2026.
Instead, we’re focusing on recording meetings directly from your device - no extra participants, no interruptions. Just your meeting, recorded as it naturally happens.
What should I use instead?
You can record meetings directly from the Voicenotes desktop app (Mac and Windows).
Here’s what you can expect:
Record meetings with a single tap from your device
No bot joining the call
Full transcriptions and AI summaries, just like before
Works across Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex, WhatsApp, and FaceTime
What happens after April 30, 2026?
You will no longer be able to send a bot to join meetings
Existing bot-related features will stop working completely
This change is permanent and cannot be reversed
Can I still record meetings I’m not attending?
No. With this update, recording is only possible from your own device.
We understand this was a useful feature for some users, but we’re focusing on making the on-device experience significantly better - faster, more reliable, and more accurate.
What’s happening to calendar integration?
We are temporarily removing calendar integrations along with meeting bots.
New users will not be able to connect their calendars
If your calendar is already connected, you’ll see an option to remove it
Once removed, it cannot be reconnected right now
This is part of the transition away from meeting bots.
Why remove calendar integration for now?
Calendar integrations were primarily used to support the meeting bot experience (like auto-joining meetings).
As we move away from bots, we’ve also paused calendar connections while we rethink how this should work going forward.
We do plan to bring calendar integration back - especially within the Mac app - in a way that’s more useful and better integrated into your workflow.
Here’s what that could look like:
Better meeting context: Automatically naming recordings based on your calendar events (like “Daily standup”) to improve summaries
Smarter AI responses: Using participant data from calendar invites so you can ask things like “What did we discuss with Jo?”
Pre-meeting briefs: Getting helpful reminders and context before a meeting, based on past conversations
There’s a lot more we want to build here. Rather than keeping a limited version, we’re taking the time to bring this back in a more meaningful way.
Will I lose my past recordings?
No. All your existing recordings, transcripts, and summaries will remain available in your account.
What improvements are coming instead?
We’re investing heavily in the on-device experience, including:
Faster and more reliable recordings
Better transcription accuracy
Smarter AI summaries
Improved overall meeting intelligence
What's different in the desktop app?
On Mac, Voicenotes can automatically detect when you join a meeting and prompt you to start recording. You’ll also get a notification if your meeting ends while recording is still running, so you don’t miss anything.
Beyond meetings, you can use built-in dictation on the desktop apps to quickly capture thoughts and notes - no typing needed.
We’re also rolling out a range of enhancements and UI improvements to make recording, transcription, and summaries faster, intutive, and more reliable.
That’s it - everything runs directly from your device.
Final note
This wasn’t an easy decision, but it helps us focus on building a better, more natural way to capture meetings.
