How to Organize Your Notes in Voicenotes Using Tags

In this article, you’ll learn how to use tags in Voicenotes to keep your notes organized, accessible, and add more context to AI chats.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Voicenotes helps you stay organized with flexible, folder-free tagging—and now supports auto-tags to do the work for you. Just record or type your note, and if it includes the keywords you have assigned, Voicenotes will automatically tag it for you. No extra steps needed.

What are Tags in Voicenotes?

Tags are simple, powerful labels that help you organize your notes. One note can have multiple tags, so you can group it under themes like “Work,” “Meetings,” or “Ideas” all at once.

Tags appear just below the search/Ask AI bar in the app and can be scrolled horizontally. You can tap any tag to filter your notes instantly.

Voicenotes use tags instead of folders as they give you greater flexibility—no need to dig through folders or subfolders. They give you an immediate overview of all related notes.

Additionally, Ask AI can use tags to give you contextually richer answers. Tags in Voicenotes are meant to be a flexible, powerful tool for managing your notes and we encourage you to start using them today!

What Are Auto-Tags?

Auto-tags automatically categorize your notes based on specific keywords you define. If a note contains a matching keyword—spoken or typed—Voicenotes applies the tag automatically and can even recommend it for past notes. This makes organizing completely effortless while also improving the context and accuracy of Ask AI.

How to Set Up Auto-Tags (Web)

  1. At the top of the app, scroll through the tag list and tap the + button at the end.

  2. Enter a tag name (e.g., “Meeting”).

  3. Add keywords that should trigger this tag (e.g., “agenda,” “standup”).

  4. Click Create. Voicenotes will now auto-tag matching notes and suggest it for relevant past notes.

✅ You can pin important tags so they stay fixed at the top—just tap the pin icon.

🔍 To browse or search by tag, just tap into the search bar—all your tags and notes will be listed there.

How to Edit a Tag

  1. On any note, tap the three-dot menu (...) and select Tag.

  2. You’ll see a list of your tags—tap the settings icon next to the tag you want to edit.

  3. In the edit view, you can:

    • Rename the tag

    • Add or remove keywords

    • Hit Done to save your changes

Can I Disable Auto-Tagging?

Yes. Just remove all keywords from a tag in the edit view. That tag will no longer be applied automatically, but you can still assign it manually through the tag menu on a note.

Manual Tagging & Creating Notes Inside a Tag

Prefer to tag manually? No problem:

  • Tap the three-dot menu on a note → Tag

  • Select or create a tag

  • Tap Add to assign it

You can also tap any tag to filter notes, then hit + to create a new note—it’ll be saved with that tag automatically.

Whether you’re managing work tasks, personal ideas, or anything in between, tags allow you to categorize and access your notes quickly and easily. Say it once, and let your tags take care of the rest.
