How to Organize Your Notes in Voicenotes Using Tags

In this article, you’ll learn how to use tags in Voicenotes to keep your notes organized, accessible, and add more context to AI chats.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What are Tags in Voicenotes?

Tags are short labels you can create and assign to your recordings. Unlike folders, which lock notes into single locations, tags allow you to categorize notes in multiple ways—making it faster to find, retrieve, and group notes across various contexts.

Why Does Voicenote Use Tags Instead of Folders to Organize Your Notes?

Tags give you greater flexibility as there is no need to dig through folders or subfolders. They give you an immediate overview of all related notes. Additionally, one note can have multiple tags, so it can appear under multiple categories at once (e.g., “Work” + “Ideas”).

Plus, Ask AI can use tags to give you contextually richer answers. Tags in Voicenotes are meant to be a flexible, powerful tool for managing your notes and we encourage you to start using them today!

Two Ways to Assign Tags to Your Notes

There are two ways to attach tags to your notes; adding the tag to a new or existing note, and adding a new note to a selected tag category.

1. Assign Tags After Creating Your Note

1. Open Voicenotes. By default, you'll see three categories at the top of the screen, under the search bar: All, Shared, and Starred.

  • All: Displays all of your notes.

  • Shared: For notes you’ve shared with others.

  • Starred: For the notes you've starred to mark their importance.

Any new tags you will add will appear along these default tags.

2. Once you're inside the app, create or open a note. Under the selected note you want to assign a tag, tap the three-dot (...) menu icon (located at the bottom right of the note).

3. From the menu options, select Tag.

4. A search bar will appear. Here, you can either:

  • Search for an existing tag: If you’ve already created tags, they’ll appear here, and you can simply select one to add.

  • Create a new tag: If the tag doesn’t already exist, just type in a word (e.g., "Work," "Ideas," "Meetings") and hit Add. Your new tag will now be associated with the note.

5. Your tags will now appear directly below the note. You can view all your tags at a glance when you return to the main screen.

2. Add a New Note Within the Tag Category

  1. Open Voicenotes. Beneath the search bar, the existing tags will appear.

  2. Tap a tag to filter notes by that category. For example, tapping “Work” shows only notes tagged as Work.

  3. Create a new note under a specific tag. If you’ve selected a tag category and proceed to create a new note, it’s automatically saved with that tag.

Whether you’re managing work tasks, personal ideas, or anything in between, tags allow you to categorize and access your notes quickly and easily. Start tagging your notes today and experience how much more organized and efficient your workflow can be!
